Sophia Scheel Bracker was born July 17, 1866 at Kalten Kirchen Holstein, Germany and at the age of ten came to America with her parents and settled at Newton, Iowa.

On the 14th of February, 1891 she was united in marriage to James B. Bracker and settled at Leadville, Colo. In 1893 they moved to Iowa and settled in Jasper county and from there moved to Wilton Junction, Muscatine county in 1901. In October 1901 they moved to Hartley where she spent the remainder of her life.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, five sons, Harry, Elmer, and Laurence of this place, Arthur who has just returned from overseas, and Clarence in the service in France; one daughter, Rosa of Fertile, Minn, and one grandchild. One daughter died in infancy.

She passed away at her home Tuesday night at 12:00 o'clock at the age of 52 years 8 months and 12 days. The funeral will be held from the home tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock.
