Funeral services for Denny Block, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Block, were hold Sunday afternoon in St. John's Lutheran Church, Rev. C. G. Meyer giving a comforting message andv conducting commitment services at Roseland Cemetary, where burial was made.
Denton Dean Block, son of Albert and Mabel Miller Block, was born on April 22, 1935 at Sanborn, Ia. From his earliest infancy he always enjoyed good health and rapidly developed into a sturdy and robust boy. About two months ago, however, he took ill, but the illness was not at all considered serious. A month passed and then very suddenly, the sickness did take a serious turn. With, his parents and other relatives and kind friends anxiously keeping vigil through the night, it was expected that he would be overtaken by death at any moment. At this occasion the Sacrament of Holy Baptism was administered.
He lived through the night and then was immediately taken to the hospital at Iowa City that he might receive the best medical care available. After being treated there for some time, it was finally decided to operate on his skull, the operation taking place on Thursday, August 25. The operation revealed that he was afflicted with a cancerous brain tumor. He lingered on for another week, valiantly fighting for his life, but the Lord determined that he who just a short time before had become His child through the Holy Baptism should be with Him. The departure took place on Thursday, September 1 at 4:45 p.m. He thus brought his age to the very small figure of three years, four months and ten days.
There remain to survive him his grief-stricken parents who attended their child most faithfully and kindly throughout his illness; one brother, Ernest Emmet; and three grandparents: Mrs. Ernest Block and. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Miller, all of Sanborn.
One brother, Albert Jr. preceded him in death in infancy about two years ago.
May the Lord Himself grant unto these survivors His true and abiding comfort. He is also survived by four great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Leider of Allendorf and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Miller of Ocheyedan. Among those from away who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dolphin of Lakefield, MinD., Mrs.s Glenn Rogers of Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Miller of Arnolds Park, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Miller of Ocheyedan, Mrs. Amelia Shaw and Louis Leider of Allendorf, Victor Fink of Melvin, Sylvan Marsh, Primghar and Mr. and Mrs. H. Ahrendsen, Sheldon.
