A death of special sadness occurred in this community when Mrs. P. M. Sitler passed away at her home in this city last Wednesday afternoon. Although ailing for some, time she was not confined to her home but a few days and it was a shock almost beyond realization to friends and neighbors to hear of her sudden death.

Caroline Amanda Storey was born September 21, 1857 at Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She came with her parents to Michigan in 1866, living there three years then came to Washington County, Iowa.
She was married at Sigourney, Iowa, May 2, 1876 to P. M. Sitler and moved to Oskaloosa, Mahaska, County and lived there until January 1886 when she came with her family to Hartley, and has resided here since that date.
Five children blessed this union, Jesse Floyd died in infancy, Winnie Cloe, Owen Earl, Inez Nana also dying in infancy and Cecile Valerine. Mrs. Sitler joined the Methodist church at Oskaloosa in 1866 and united with the Methodist church in this city immediately after taking up her residence here.

The following survived the deceased: Beside the heart broken husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Dr. Womeldorf of Dallas, S. D., Cecile Sitler of this city, and a son Owen Sitler of San Francisco, Cal., and other relatives and hosts of friends.

Mrs. Sitler led a beautiful life and was a remarkable woman. She retained her youth of heart and spirit up to the last. There was no company so old or so young where she did not feel at home. She was very active in church and society circles. A member of the Eastern Star, Relief Corp, Cemetery Association and Ladies Aid Society and held prominent offices. She was the efficient president of the Cemetery Association, and under her presidency of the Ladies Aid Society a very efficient work was done.

Wednesday afternoon, April 10th, the Master said, "Lay your burdens down, your work on earth is done, I want a jewel for my crown." When He cometh to make up his jewels He chooses the best and brighter for his crown and this was the passing of our dear friend from us.

The funeral was held at the M. E. church Friday, April 12 th, at 2:00 p. m., conducted by Rev W. O. Tompkins and interment in Pleasant View Cemetery. Relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects filled the large auditorium and west room of the church. L. Smylie, Mr. W. R. Wagner, Misses Grace Ermish and Gussie Metcalf sang a quartette and Miss Grace Ermish sang a beautiful solo. Miss Marie Devitt accompanied them at the'piano. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful.
