William Orthmann, son of Henry F. and Emma Dorothy Orthmann, was born January 22, 1872 in Benton County, Iowa. He was baptized in infancy. In 1881 he moved to O'Brien county with his parents. He attended school at Paullina, Ia. He farmed near Paullina until about fifteen yeas ago when he moved to Hartley.

He passed this earthly life on December 26th at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 4 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Zerbena Hinkey and Mrs. J.C. Clausen of Hartley and Mrs. M. Schultz of Beaverton, Ore.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, Dec. 29 at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church for William Orthmann who died Tuesday, Decemeber 26. Rev. B.H. Romanowski, pastor of the church, had charge of the services. Pall bearers were E. Krutzfeldt Dan Hoeman, John Selken, Richard Witt, Dr. Paulsen and Bob Meyers. Interment was in the Paullina Cemetery.
