OTTO HINKEY DIES On Monday afternoon, June 1, 1931 as 3 o'clock came to a close, after a long period of intense suffering the life of Otto Hinkey. He was born in Sprucewick township, Jackson county, Iowa, on April 22, 1861, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hinkey. He was soon baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran church at St. Onadoes, Ia.

He remained in that community as a farmer until 1868, when the family moved to O'Brien county, where he continued to till the soil. Here he met and on the 20th of March, 1907, married Mrs. Zerbena Both, nee Orthmann, who since then traveled life's pathway with him, caring for him and nursing him with untiring care and devotion during his long and trying illness.

About 12 years ago his health began to fail and he retired and moved to Hartley, continuing quite active, however, until about two years ago, when his illness became acute. At that time it became evident that he was suffering from that dread disease, dropsy. All that human skill and love could do was done for him. His wife and daughters never wearied in their efforts to ease his suffering and make his lot more bearable. At times he rallied considerably, and nearly always he was hopeful of a final recovery.

Only this spring he voiced the belief that he would survive at least this summer. In the last weeks, however, when his suffering became almost unbearable, he realized that the end was not far off, and was resigned and willing to go.

We, who witnessed his agony, so often admired the patience and fortitude with which he bore it all, biding the time when the Father should see fit to call him.

He is survived by his sorrowing widow, Mrs. Zerbeha Hinkey, nee Orthmann, two step-daughters, Mrs. Lewis Stellish of Hartley and Mrs. Howell Tjossem of Gaza and a daughter Mrs. Carl Klinker of Sutherland. One son, Elmer, died in infancy. Of six brothers and three sisters, only two brothers survive, Dietrick and John Hinkey, both of Hartley. He is also survived by four grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and a large number of friends.

Having resided in this community many years, he was well and favorably known, having been a helpful friend and neighbor. For a number of years he has been a member of Trinity church and of the Woodmen of the World.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock o'clock at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon. Rev. F. W. Budy officiated. The mixed quartet sang several selections. Interment was in Pleasant View cemetery.
