Death Spares Not Youth
Jessie Brown, Aged Twenty, Died in Sioux City

The community was startled last Thursday evening to learn of the death in a Sioux City hospital of Miss Jessie Brown, the 20-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs. Alex Brown, south of town.

Few had known she was sick, and in fact her illness had ueen of short duration She had been at Storm Lake since last September, attending college, hud been home at vacation time, apparently as well as ever. During the latter part of the week preceding her death she was taken ill on Monday her parents wens called and she was taken to Sioux City to be operated on. She was unable to recover from the shock and died on Thursday.

The body was brought to Paullina and on Saturday afternoon the funeral was held at the home. A large number of grieving friends gathered and all possible has been done to make the sorrowing parents feel that the entire sympathy of the community is theirs. The following obituary notice was read at the funeral.

Jessie Brown, the oldest daughter of Alex and Jennie Brown, was horn March 31st, 1896, at the old home near Marcus. It was there that all the children of the family were born. And it was from there that Jessie went to school all her girlhood days. When an infant she was baptized in her first church home at Mount Pleasant by the Rev. Robert Horn. Later when a grown girl, she made a public confession of Jesus Christ as her savior and united with the church.

It was at that place Jessie continued her school work at Marcus until she had finished her second year in high school. About that time her parents took up their new home near Paullina and the following fall she transferred to the Paullina high school. From here she graduated last spring with honors, bringing credit to her teachers, to her parents, and to herself.

After a busy and pleasant summer with her loved ones at home she left for Buena Vista college at Storm Lake where she registered as freshman. With characteristic thoroughness she entered into the college studies. With her, work was not done unless it was well done. So she did her work well. Some students are frequently admonished not to neglect their studies with her it was "Don't overdo."
