Waldene A Lundell, 91, of Cherokee, a much loved mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at Careage Hills Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church, rural Menden Pastor Clint Hogrefe will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden.

Waldene was born on April 10, 1921 to Paul O. and Ida Muckler Rabe in Letcher, S.D. She moved to Paullina in 1938 and graduated from Paullina High School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Lundell on Feb. 23, 1944. To this union [were] born two children, a daughter Verdene and a son Steven.

She was a member of the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church and taught Sunday School for many years, helped with VBS, and was involved in Women's Ministries. She loved being a grandmother and loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was glad that she was able to meet her three great grandchildren who were born this year.

She liked working the crossword puzzles and talking to her sister and friends on the telephone. For many years she created a calendar with a page of pictures for each grandchild on the month of their birthday.

Waldene was preceeded in death by her husband Vernon in March 2012, her parents, a son-in-law Stephen Paulsen in March 2003, her brothers, Arnold, Paul, and Clarence Rabe and brother-in-law Harvey Stratton, sisters-inlaw Delilah Rabe and Laurine Lundell.

Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Verdene Paulsen of Cherokee, a son Steven (Denise) Lundell of Cherokee, grandchildren. Amanda (Ben) Lloyd, Jonathan (Emily) Paulsen, Andrew (Heather) Paulsen, Mikaela (Tyson) Otto, Evan (Karla) Lundell and Jenae Lundell, great grandchildren. Eliza Paulsen, Amelia Gloyd, and Isla Otto, a sister Ione (Kip) Nelson of Denver Colo., a brother-in-law Robert (Penny) Lundell, sisters-in-law Gen Stratton and Marj Rabe and many nieces, nephews and friends.
