SERVICES HELD FOR EVA MARIE BRYANT

Eva Marie Bryant was born June 1, 1904 in Grant Township, O'Brien County, Iowa to Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Bryant, their second child and only daughter. She died May 28, 1983 at the Intermediate Care Facility at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Following graduation from Sutherland High School and from Drake University at Des Moines, Eva began teaching in the high school at Charter Oak, Iowa in September 1925. She also taught at Arlington, Iowa and at Aurelia, Iowa before joining the faculty at Hampton High School. During the many years of her service in Hampton every freshman was enrolled in one of her English I classes. When she retired in 1969 her fellow teachers, the School Board and the entire community honored her at a reception.

Eva became a member of the Christian Church in Sutherland during her high school years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Hampton acting on committees and participating in the Women's organizations until illness prevented her from attending meetings. An active member in the Hampton Chapter of the American Association of University Women, Eva served it in many capacities. In recognition of her services, the Chapter presented a name gift to the National Association in honor of Eva Marie Bryant.

Eva possessed an unusual ability to make and keep friends, all of whom join her family in mourning her death. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her older brother, Artie and her younger brother, Harold.

Survivors include one brother, W. R. Bryant, Canton, S.D., nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 31 in the First Christian Church at Hampton with the Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley, with Rev. Bernard Sayler conducting the graveside service.
