Viola (Oldenkamp) Laue (1929-2017)

Viola Laue, the daughter of Herman B. and Lilly (Peters) Oldenkamp, was born on December 28, 1929, on the family farm near Hospers, Iowa. She attended country school until the 8th grade.

She was united in marriage to Keith Laue on June 17, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, three daughters were born, Patricia, Diane and Kristi.

In 1989, Viola received her GED from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. Viola worked for the Sutherland School for many years and then went on to work at Sanford Home Health and Hospice as a home care aide, until her retirement in 2011. She remained in Sutherland until moving to Prairie View in Sanborn in March of 2017. Viola passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 reaching the age of 87 years, 6 months and 17 days.

Viola enjoyed sewing, crafting and having coffee with her friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory, are her daughters, Diane Hodson of LeMars, Iowa and Kristi and her husband, Mark Koch, of La Crosse, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Robert “Robby” Hodson and Abigail “Abi” and Luke Koch; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia; brothers, Bert, Chris, John and Henry “Hank” Oldenkamp.
