A sad accident resulting in the death of Robert Sanford occurred at the agricultural warerooms of Reynods Metcalf last Thursday afternoon. The old gentleman was looking at some pumps and without noticing a square opening in the floor used for the passage of the elevator to the basement fell through, striking on his head and left shoulder. The fall broke his neck and he expired almost immediately, and before medical assistance arrived.

Mr. Sanford was 85 years old and quite feeble and evidently did not notice the elevator shaft. His total fall was but six or seven feet. The accident for which no one is to blame cast a shade of sadness over the whole town where Mr. Sanford has lived and been known for years. He leaves several children all of whom are grown up and some have families.

The funeral occurred Saturday from the Methodist church.
