Merlyn Welch

Services in memory of Merlyn Welch were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 12, 1994, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Milo Sheldon officiated. Casket bearers were Ed Schierholz, Norman Lux, Cloy Olhausen, Orlan Lux, Doug Nagel, Hugh Johnson, Red Getting and Don Stanley. Honorary casket bearers were Glen Grooters, Les Paulsen, Duane Kolpin, Jack Bergendahl, Jim Nielsen and Bob Skorman. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery of Hartley. Warner-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Merlyn Ray Welch, the son of Vern and Esther Zaiser Welch, was born June 9, 1933 in Hartley, Iowa. He grew up on a farm four miles north of Hartley, attended country school and graduated from Hartley High School in 1951.

Merlyn married Jermaine Joy Bryant on February 22, 1953 in Hartley, Iowa. Throughout his entire life he was a resident of Hartley, where he managed Huntting Elevator and later drove for Getting Trucking.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He had served on the Chamber of Commerce, the Meadowbrook Board, the Sunday School Board, the Hartley Investment Club and the Fire Department. His hobbies were golf, cards and his grandchildren.

On December 8,1994, Merlyn passed away at the Embassy Care Center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa at the age of 61. He was disabled from a fall at his home on September 26, 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Merlyn is survived by his wife, Jermaine of Hartley; two sons: Kelly and his wife Deidre Welch of Hartley and Kerry Welch of San Diego, California; one daughter and her husband, Jonelle and Charles Conrad of Harlan, Iowa; five grandchildren: Tanya, Toby and Bailey Welch, and Brett and Shane Conrad; one sister, Ardine and her husband, Lanny Dillingham of Harris; other relatives and many friends.
