Emma G. (Tewes) Peters (1891-1974)

Emma Peters, nee Tewes, the daughter of John and Annine [sic] Asmus Tewes, was born May 17, 1891 at Durant, Iowa. She came with her parents to the Hartley area as a young girl and attended school near her childhood home.

She was united in marriage at Hartley to John Peters on February 15, 1912. To this union were born two sons. The couple farmed until the death of John in 1930. She stayed on the farm until moving to town in 1954.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ at Hartley, the Golden Sheaf Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at Hartley and was a former member of the Farm Bureau Women.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were her hparents, one sister, two brothers, a son, Myrle, in 1960 and one great granddaughter.

She passed away suddenly at her hom in Hartley on March 20, 1974 at the age of 82.

Left to cherish her memory are one sone and two daughters-in-law, Earl and Inez Peters of Hartley and Mrs. Margaret Peters of Spirit Lake, Iowa, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and her many friends.

Services in memory of Mrs. Peters were held on Friday, March 22, 1974, at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa with Rev. Bernard Sayler officiating.

The casketbearers were Dale Lux, Roy Payne, Carl Ruby, Delbert Peterson, Clarence Hein and Lambert Mastbergen.

Burial was made in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
