Marvin "Shorty" Tewes

Funeral services in memory of Marvin "Shorty" Tewes were conducted Friday, October 29, 1999, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. Milo Sheldon officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Casket bearers were Kevin Tewes, Ed Harders, Brent Tewes, Craig Wills, Joel Tewes, Tom Tewes, Loren Tewes and Larry Tewes. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home of Hartley was in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin "Shorty" Tewes, the son of Ernest and Nellie Baumeister Tewes, was born July 6, 1919, in Hartley, Iowa and it was there he received his education. Following his schooling, he entered the Army and served during World War II from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946.

On November 14, 1954, Marvin married Ruth Reeverts at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Hartley area and he was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He was a past member of the Brotherhood of Trinity United Church of Christ, and also a member of the American Legion Post.

Shorty was a loving father and grandfather, and will be'missed by all who knew him. He passed away at the Primghar Care Center at Primghar, Iowa on Tuesday, October 26,1999, at the age of 80.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth on July 31, 1993; three brothers: Harlan, Delmar and Lawrence; and two sisters: Norma Jean and an infant girl.

Marvin is survived by one son and his wife, Bruce and Joyce Tewes of Hartley; one daughter and her husband, Peggy and Morris Stofferan of Hartley; five grandchildren: Shawn, Allen, Daniel, Adam and Sarah; five brothers: Lester of Hartley, Roger of Larrabee, Iowa, Arlo of Primghar, Iowa, Orville of Paullina, Iowa, Eldon of Hartley, Iowa; four sisters: Arlene Harders, Marge Petersen, Marlene Wills and Mildred Hennings, all of Hartley; as well as other relatives and many friends.
