Mildred May "Millie" Tewes Hennings (1932-2009)

A funeral service for Mildred (Millie) May Hennings was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. Jeff Filkins officiated. Pallbearers were Kevin Tewes, Jerry Tewes, Bruce Tewes, Brent Tewes, Ed Harders and Craig Wills. Honorary pallbearer was John Vander Veen. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Sanborn Hartley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred "Millie" May (Tewes) Hennings, the daughter of Nellie (Baumeister) and Ernest Tewes, was born on February 13, 1932 at Hartley, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in rural Hartley where she attended country school, and later graduated from Hartley High School.

She was united in marriage to Darrel Hennings on September 6, 1969 at Sanborn, Iowa. The couple farmed near Hartley. Millie worked at the Hamilton Law Office in Hartley for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.

She enjoyed crocheting in her spare time, but was happiest being outside; whether she was helping with the livestock and farming, gardening, or mowing the yard. She especially loved spending time with her grandson, John.

Millie passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa on Wednesday, January 7,2009 at the age of 76.

Survivors include her husband Darrel of Hartley; her daughter, Jill and her husband Roger Vander Veen of Hartley; her grandson, John Vander Veen, also of Hartley, her siblings: Arlene Harders of Hartley, Lester (Dorothy) Tewes of Hartley, Marjorie Petersen of Hartley, Orville (Marlys) Tewes of Paullina, Iowa, Arlo (Harriet) Tewes of Primghar, Iowa, Roger Tewes of Calumet, Iowa, Marlene (Harold) Wills of Hartley, Eldon (Linda) Tewes of Hartley, and a sister-in-law Ruth Tewes of Royal, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marilyn Tewes (in infancy), and Norma Jean Richtcr; four brothers: Lawrence, Harlan, Marvin and Delmar Tewes.
