Burdette Hodgdon Services Held Saturday

Funeral services for E. Burdette Hodgdon were held Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at the Paullina Presbyterian Church. Rev. Robert Hickman, pastor of the church, officiated at the services.

Elwood Burdette Hodgdon, fifth son of Ada Hoisington Hodgdon and Charles S. Hodgdon was born on a farm southeast of Paullina on January 16, 1898.

He was stricken with a severe cerebral hemorrhage on March 30th and passed from this life on April 1, 1970 at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 15 days.

He attended the public schools of the community. Mr. Hodgdon was married, to Gladys Steen of Schuyler, Nebraska on June 1, 1918. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary June 1, 1968.

Mr. Hodgdon was a farmer most of his life, living on the same farm until his marriage. He served as a rural mail carrier for one year and also worked for the, Legion. He retired from the farm in 1952 and made his home in Paullina at 416 W. Day. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife Gladys; 1 sister, Fyrne (Mrs. W. J. Puhrman) of Charles City, Iowa; and one brother John of Quimby and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

Pallbearers, for Mr. Hodgdon were A. W. Anderson, Bentley Brown, Alvin Keyser, Clarence Schmith, Robert Oeffner and James Meyer. Mrs. N. E. Weems was soloist and Mrs. Harold DeJong was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weseman were in charge of the flowers.

Final resting place was in Prairie View Cemetery with Gaudian Funeral Home in charge.
