Funeral Services for Miss Joan Libby

Funeral services for Miss Joan C. Libby were held at the home of the deceased Friday afternoon, June 24, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. H. Forester, pastor of the Methodist Church of Sheldon. Rev. Forester was assisted by a quartet composed of Mrs. R.H. Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Miller and Dr. J.S. Sanders, with Mrs. D.E. Stevens accompanist who sang several selections. The pall bearers were J.A. Protextor, A.L. Berlin, F.C. Wheaton, E.A. Mayne, J.A. Johnson, G.H. KIngs, all old time neighbors and friends.

Joan C. Libby was born in Mercer County, Illinois, December 15, 1854, and died at her home in Sanborn June 22, 1927, after a lingering illness. She was the eldest daughter of Josiah and Susan Libby. She came to Iowa at the age of ten years when her parents moved to Benton county. In the spring of 1882, she came with them to Sanborn which has since been her home. She was a woman of sterling character, a faithful member of the Presbyterian church and a good neighbor and friend.

Following the death of her only sister, Mrs. M. E. Bailey, several years ago, she filled the place of mother for the latter's son, Hobart Bailey, who grew to manhood in her home and who with her four brothers mourn her loss. Mr. Bailey was present at the funeral and remained here for a a few days to look after the property of his aunt and foster mother.

The surviving brothers are W.J. of Sanborn; M.H. of Sioux City; O.E. of Kelso and T.S. of Sibley.
