Services Held for Anna M. Shafer

Services for Anna M. Shafer were held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 15, 1986, at the Zion United Church of Christ at Calumet, Iowa, with the Rev. Glenn Davis officiating. The pall bearers were Warren Allevan, David Ebel, Michael Tewes, Dennis Ebel, Joel Tewes and Kevin Shafer. "What a Friend we have in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by Mrs. Pat Menke with Mrs. Verla Hibbing at the organ. Mrs. Luella Lockwood and Mrs. Roman Friedrichsen were in charge of flowers. The final resting place is Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian Eldridge Funeral Home.

Anna Marie Frances Shafer, the daughter of Herman and Margaret Sorenson Hinz, was born September 27, 1902, in Kappeln, Germany. She came to the United States and the Sutherland area at the age of seven. She received her education in the O'Brien County rural schools.

On December 2, 1925, she was united in marriage to Edwin Shafer in Sioux Falls, S.D. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Calumet area for many years. They retired in 1967 and moved into Paullina. The couple continued to make their home in Paullina until Anna entered the Baum Harmon Hospital in Primghar and passed away on Thrusday, November 13, 1986, reaching the age of 84 years, 1 month and 16 days.

She as a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet and also a member of the Women's Fellowship of the church. She was a member of the Paullina and the Sutherland Senior Citizens.

Anna leaves to cherish her memory her husband Edwin of Paullina; her children: Leora (Mrs. Wilbert Ebel) of Sutherland; Betty (Mrs. Henry Alleven) of Mapleton, Minn., Wallace of Granville and Marlys (Mrs. Orville Tewes) of Paullina; 16 grandhildren; 25 great grandchildren; two brothers: John Hinz of Paullina and Harry Hinz of Paullina; also a host of other relatives and friends.

She was precededd in death by her parents, one daughter, Carol; two grandchildren and three brothers.
