The community was saddened during the past week by the death of two of its highly respected pioneer residents.

Mrs. Julia Delan passed away at her home north of Sanborn Saturday, May 1, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Delan, whose maiden name was Julia Anna Ellingson, was born at Norway, Benton county, Iowa, November 5, 1871, and died at the age of 54 years, 5 months, 8 days. She lived at Norway until December 11, 1889, when she was united in marriage to John Delan, a former resident of Norway, who had been a resident of O'Brien county for two years before their marriage, and the young couple came at once to establish the home where the rest of her days were spent.

They were the, parents of three sons and a daughter, all of whom survive their mother. They are Elmer J., Heron Lake, Minn., Ida A., John O., and Clarence E., all at home.

Mr. Delan passed away March 17, 1917.

Besides the children, Mrs. Delan is survived by five sisters and five brothers, all but two of whom were present at the funeral. The brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Maggie Oakland, Randall, Iowa; Halver Ellingson, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Elsie Mathre, Des Moines; Osmond Ellingson, Webster City; Elias Ellingson, Nprway, Iowa; Mrs. John Hougen, Story City, Iowa; Mrs. O. M. Anenson, Roland, Iowa; Elling Ellingson, Vinton, Iowa; S. J. Ellingson, Westbrook, Minn.: Mrs. Andrew Olson, McCallsburg, Iowa.

Funeral services were conducted at the home north of Sanborn Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Fremont Taul ot the Sanborn Methodist church, officiating. \ Appropriate songs were rendered by the trio composed of Mrs. Dick Leemkuil, Mrs J. W. Levy and Mrs. C. E. Heinsen. A large concourse of relatives, neighbors and friends attended the funeral, and there were many beautiful floral tributes.
Relatives who were here from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Anenson, Roland, Iowa; Mrs. John Hougen, Story Ci­ty, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Ellingson and children, Westbrook, Minn.; Elling Ellingson, Vinton, Iowa; Elias Ellingson, Norway, Iowa; Osmond Ellingson, Webster City, Iowa; George Axdahl, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Axdahl and Mr. and Mrs. Christ Axdahl. Paullina; Elmer Delan, Miss Ella Fricke and Mrs. L. D. Sogge, Windom, Minn. Burial was in Roseland cemetery.

Mrs. Dolan enjoyed the esteem and friendship of all who knew her, and the Pioneer joins sincerely in expressing sympathy to the bereaved children.
