J. J. Delan, Well-Known Sanborn Citizen, Suddenly Stricken Down

His many friends in this community were painfully surprised the first of the week to learn of the death of J. J. Delan, which occured on Sunday at a hospital in Heron Lake, Minnesota.

Last week Mr. Dejan left, apperently in his usual health, to assist his son in moving to a farm near Heron Lake. A few days later news came that he had been taken to a hospital, but even then it was not thought anything serious was the cause and after an illness of three days he passed to his reward.

Death was the result of an acute attack of myocarditis. The remains were brought home on Monday and the funeral services held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church under the direction of the pastor, Rev Edd H Sands, who was assisted b> Rev R N. Burress, of Belmond, Iowa, a former pastor, and near friend of the family.

A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance at the service and followed the remains to their last resting place in Roseland cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, attesting the high standing of the decedent in the community.

John J. Delan was born in Skein, Norway, September 1, 1859, and was in his fifty-ninth year. His mother died when he was very young and at the age of six he came to this country, going first to Norway, Iowa. In 1887, when about twenty-eight years old, he came to O'Brien county and settled on the home place north of this town.

He married on December 11, 1889, to Miss Julia Ellingson. This union was blessed with four children, Elmer J. now residing at Heron Lake, Minn , Ida A., John 0., and Clarence, of Sanborn, all of whom, with the widow, survive and were present at the funeral He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Geo Axdahl of Paullina.

Throughout his residence here Mr. Delan had been known as a man of sterling honesty and his attributes of genuineness attracted a very large circle of friends, with whom we join in extending to the bereaved family the most sincere condolences in this hour of sorrow. In his death the community loses another of its best type of citizens.
