Services held for Alfred "Kelly" Gaudian

Funeral services for Alfred "Kelly" Gaudian were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001 at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina. Rev. Karl Eckhoff officiated. Casket bearers included Harlan Tesch, Dale Tesch, Tracy Bahrenfuss, Eldon Tesch, Kelvin Tesch and Lon Wacker. Burial was in [West] Praine View Cemetery in Paullina.

Alfred "Kelly" Gaudian, the son of August and Alma Bock Gaudian Jr. was born October 16, 1911 on the family farm in Caledonia Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. The family moved to Holland, Minnesota, where he received his education and worked as a farmer and on the railroad. In 1935, he returned to Iowa and worked construction for Albert Gaudian. He began his own construction company which he operated for 21 years.

On October 29, 1938, he was united in marriage to Hertha Tesch in Canton, South Dakota. After making their home in Paullina, they moved to Cherokee where he was employed in construction with Grudeman Hicks and later Hasselhoff Construction before his retirement. The couple returned to Paullina to make their home.

Hertha preceded him in death on April 16, 1991, in Sioux City.

Kelly continued to make his home in Paullina and passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon reaching the age of 89 years, 7 months and 6 days.

He was baptized and confirmed on March 29, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina where he has been a member for many years. He enjoyed watching TV and playing his concertina.

Kelly is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Wiese of Pipestone, Minnesota and Mrs. Edna Fries of Spicer, Minnesota; one brother, Elmer Gaudian of Cherokee, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nora Tesch of Primghar; also nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son Robert, his parents, and six brothers and sisters.
