Irene Meyer, the daughter of William and Clara Richter Meyer, was born October 19, 1908,in Germantown, Iowa. She attended schools at St. John's Lutheran School in Germantown. On June 29, 1929, she was united in marriage to Elvert Meyer in Germantown, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Paullina area until 1965 when they moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska, where Elvert was employed by the South Sioux City Police Dept. The couple remained in South Sioux City before returning to Paullina in June of 1990. She moved, to the Wide View Rest Home in September of 1990. She passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 1990, at the home, reaching the age of 82 years and 18 days.
She was baptized on October 21,1908, and later confirmed on March 25, 1923, at St.John's Lutherans Church in Germantown. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska, and the Ladies Aid of the Church. Since returning to Paullina. she attended Zion Lutheran Church.
Irene leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Elvert of Paullina; three daughters and sons-in-law, Verla Mae and Waldo Brugh and Carolyn and Jack Barnes, both of Paullina and Lois and Phil Hohenstein of Dakota City, Nebraska; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Ileen Meyer of Emporia, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren: two brothers, Ray of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Orville of Hartley, Iowa;one sister, Mrs. LaVerne Niebuhr of Paullina; also a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a great granddaughter; three sisters, Esther, Luella and Wilma and one brother, Lorenz Meyer.
The final resting place is Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, IA.
