Elvert Meyer (1909-1991)

Elvert Meyer, the son of Otto and Martha Lange Meyer, was born April 26,1909, in Germantown, Iowa.

He received his education at St. John's Lutheran Schools i Germantown. On June 29, 1929, he was united in marriage to Irene Meyer in Germantown. After their marriage, the couple settled in the Paullina area where they farmed and raised and showed Poland china hogs until 1965 when they moved to South Sioux , Nebraska. At this time, Elvert was employed by the City of South Sioux as a police officer. The couple remained in South Sioux City until returning to Paullina in June of 1990. Irene preceded him in death on November 7, 1990, in Paullina. The last several weeks, Elvert has been a resident of Millie's Rest Home in Sutherland, Iowa.

He was baptized on May 16, 1909, and later confirmed on March 25, 1923, at St. John's Lutheran church in Germantown. While in South Sioux City, he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He was active in the Poland China Hog Association receiving several awards.

Elvert leaves to cherish his memory three daughters and sons-in-law, Verla Mae and Waldo Brugh and Carolyn and Jack Barnes of Paullina and Lois and Phil Hohenstein of Dakota City, Nebraska; one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Ileen Meyer of Emporia, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a great granddaughter; one brother, Clarence and one sister, Velma.

Final resting place is Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa.
