GLADYS N. DUMMETT 1900 — 1990

Gladys Naomi Vrooman, the daughter of Franklin and Margaret (Young) Vrooman, was born near Soiling, Okla. on Nov. 5, 1900. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Sanborn where she received her education at the Sanborn Public School.

Gladys was united in marriage to Glenn Dummett on Dec. 26, 1918 at the home of her parents, and to this union four children were born. Following their marriage they farmed for several years on the farm of Glenn's grandfather, but most of their life was spent in Sanborn.

Gladys passed away at Baum-Harmon Memorial Hospital at Primghar on June 30, 1990 at the age of 89 years, seven months and 25 days.

She is survived by her children: Virgil Dummett of Boone, Ia., Mrs. Ray (Lavonne) Porth of Heron Lake, Minn., and Lillian Wilson of New Orleans, La.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, four sisters and one brother.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sanborn, the Mary's Circle, the Helping Hand Society and a Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge. She was employed at the Sanborn Pioneer for 19 years and continued as a correspondent until June of 1981. She had served as secretary-treasurer of the Women's Bowling League and was elected to the Sanborn Women's Bowling Hall of Fame.

Funeral services were held July 3 at the First Presbyterian Church at Sanborn with Rev. Paul Soderquist officiating. Casket bearers were Dick Sanders, Harlyn Raymond, Dean Raymond, Bill Dummett, Mike Dummett, and Don Knowlton. Brad and Joy Smith sang "In the Garden," and "Beautiful Isle of Some­where." Organist was Chris Van Meeteren. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
