Hugo Carl Hein, the son of Charlie and Minnie Mohr Hein, was born July 11, 1897, near Davenport, Iowa. He passed away suddenly at his home in Hartley, June 21, 1970, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 10 days.

At the age of 5 he and his parents moved to a farm near Hartley. Later he lived near Primghar, Iowa, for 5 years and then returned to Hartley where he was a businessman for many years and later worked as a plumber. After his retirement, he had a hobby of building and repairing bikes.

He was united in marriage to Velma Woltersdorf at Spencer, Iowa, on June 12, 1918. They had 52 years of happily married life before his sudden death. To them were born two daughters to whom he was a living father.

He was baptized and confirmed December 13, 1929. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and a daughter. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Velma; a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Storing (Gladys) of Chandler, Ariz.; other relatives and his many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 25, 1970 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Rev. Bernard Sayler officiated.

Pallbearers were Ray Reinke, Verlis Fanning, Herb Schroeder, John Mohni, Mike Thorn and Bill Hinkey.

Burial was in Pleasant View cemetery with Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
