Henry Hirt

Henry Hirt, son of Martin and Mary Hirt, was born in Scott County near Maysville on Dec­ember 2, 1868, where he grew to manhood. He came to O'Brien County in March, 1894, and mov­ed to Hartley, Iowa, in March, 1895.

He passed away at the Hand hospital on August 7, 1951, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 5 days. He had been ill the past five months.

He was united in marriage with Alvena Peters on March 6, 1897. He moved to the farm he had purchased three and a half miles east of Hartley which was to be their home until they mov­ed to Hartley in 1930. Mrs. Hirt preceded him in death, having passed away June 13, 1937.[sic]

To this union two children were born, Mildred Hirt Samp­son of Primghar and John Hirt of Hartley.

He leaves to mourn his depart­ure his two children, Mildred and John; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; one son-in-law; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Hirt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was the only sur­viving member of his family of eight. Preceding him in death were his brothers, George and John, and sisters, Caroline, Mar­garet, Katherine, Matilda and Mary.

He was baptized in the Trinity Church of Hartley of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Brotherhood. He was a good devoted home-loving father and the welfare of his family meant much to him.

Funeral services were held at the Henry Hirt home and Trin­ity Evangelical and Reformed Church on Thursday, August 9, 1951. Rev. B. H. Romanowski was in charge of the service. Mrs. Harold Gonnerman presided at the organ and a quartet consist­ing of Mrs. Francis Glackin, Mrs. Everett Selken, W. R. Wagner and Rev. Romanowski sang "God Will Take Care Of You" and "In The Garden". Pallbearers were Ernest Wohlert, Henry Baumeister, Theodore Rinck, Charley Ackerman, John Tewes and Emil Dietz. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
