Services held for Lena Struve

Funeral services for Lena Struve were held at the United Methodist Church in Hartley Friday morning. April 10. Rev. Clair Kerns officiated. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley, with the Baumgarten Funeral Home on charge of the arrangements. The casket bearers were David Rausch. Craig Struve, Doug Ro­hwer, Todd Rohwer. Kent Jo-hannsen. Mike Johannsen. Dennis Rohwer and Jon Ander­son. The honorary casket atten­dants were Steven Hook. Ray Fuller. Donald Brown, John Shepek and Greg Brown.

Lena Struve. the daughter of William and Helena Damm Westphal, was born July 30, 1901 at Paullina, Iowa. She at­tended rural school near her childhood home.

She was united in marriage to Leo Struve on December 22. 1018 at Paullina and they farmed near Paullina until 1939. They farmed at Sutherland until 1947 and then at Hartley until Leo's death in I960. She lived at Hartley until her health failed and she was moved to Suther­land to be closer to her family. She has been a resident of Mil­lies Rest Home in Sutherland the last two and one-half years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women at Hartley and was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She passed away at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee on April 7. 1987 at the age of 85.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, two sons-in-law, Francis Rausch and Loyd Rohwer and one daughter-in-law. Mildred Struve; five broth­ers, one sister and two great­grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are one son and his wife, Irvin and Gladys of Sutherland: three daughters and their husbands, Bernadine and Elmer Johannsen and Helen Rohwer. all of Sutherland and Phyllis and Duane Anderson of Peterson: seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Emma Luhrs and one brother, William Westphal, both of Hartley, as well as other relatives and friends.
