Services held for Marlin E. Fischer

Funeral services for Marlin E. Fischer were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 1996, at the Oakdate Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, Iowa, with Rev. Warren Coe officiating. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Love of God" were sung by David Brown and "Amazing Grace" and "Like a River Glorious" were sung by the congregation. Organist was Jill Freed. The honorary casket bearers were Christi Lawson, Holly Matthiesen, Jessica Fischer, Troy Carlson, Angie Carlson, Ashley Carlson, Heather Collins, Nikki Stofferan, Daniel Fis­cher, Chad Carlson, Amber Carlson and Rachel Orthmann. The casket bearers were Joel Carlson, Kent Carlson, Daniel Orth­mann, Kevin Carlson, Jim Stofferan, Josiah Orthmann and Elisha Orthmann. Interment was at the Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Marlin E. Fischer, the son of Robert and Anna Strasheim Fischer, was born November 10, 1919, in Pierce, Nebraska. He attended and graduated from Lynch High School in Lynch, Nebraska in 1937. He then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he worked as a precision grinder in a factory.

On April 15, 1944, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Streed. She preceded him in death in November of 1946, in Calumet, Iowa.

On October 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to MaryAnn Ebel at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple lived in the Calumet area where he was a salesman for the Moorman Feed Com­pany His wife preceded him in death on November 28, 1972, in Cherokee.

On January 5, 1974, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Carlson at Oakdale Free Church The couple made their home in Calumet. He retired from Moorman Feeds in 1982.

He passed away on Saturday, March 2, 1996, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee after being stricken at his home, reaching the age of 76 years, 3 months and 22 days. He attended the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden.

Marlin leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dorothy of Calumet; five daughters: Dianna and her husband, Adrian Collins of Carrollton, Texas; Barbara and her husband, Doug Matthiesen of Sioux City; Sandra and her husband, Martin Stofferan of Paullina, Valerie Fischer of Arnolds Park and Kimberley Fischer of Sheldon; one son, Douglas and his wife, Debra Fischer in Costa Rica; three step-sons, Douglas and his wife, Sandi Carlson of Orange City; Dennis and his wife, Jane Carlson of Phoenix;, Arizona; and Steven and his wife, Donita Carlson of Sutherland; one step-daughter, Deborah and her husband, David Orthmann of Sutherland, 19 grandchildren, two-great grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Delilah Rabe of Paullina and Marvene Fischer of Deerfield, Illinois; one brother, Paul Fischer of Marcus and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Velma Ebel of Paullina; also a host of other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his wives; one son, William; parents and three brothers, Leslie, Rahland and Eugene.
