Modeste [sic throughout] Cardin, Sr.

Modeste Cardin Sr., died at his home Wednesday morning at seven o'clock. His death came very suddenly. While he has been confined to his home since before Xmas by illness, it had been thought that the condition had been showing improvement this past week. On the morning of his death he had arisen about six o'clock, but after a few minues had laid down on his bed again and apparently seemed to drop off to sleep. Death occurred while sleeping.

Modeste Cardin was born in Alamakee County, Iowa, __, 1852. He was married to Ms. Kate Walker at Prairie du Chien, Wis., March 4, 1878. To them were born seven children, of whom five are still living. The death of his first wife occured Feb 10, 18__ at the age of 42. On October 19, 1903 he was marrried to Mrs. Hortense Car_lete at St. Paul, Minn, who survives him.

Mr. Cardin came to Iowa in 1881, settling on a farm in Sioux County, where he made his home until he retired from active life and came to this city to make his home.

The funeral was held Friday morning at 9:30. Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Candin and Joseph Cardin of this city attended the funeral.

Mr. Cardin was a man of sterling integrity and fine character and during his long residence here has made a host of warm friends who will join in mourning his loss, and in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
