SHELDON—Elfriede (Schroeder) Puhrman Cardin, age 89, of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

Funeral Services were Monday, Jan. 5, at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon, with the Rev. Craig Nissen officiating. Burial as at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Elfriede (Puhrman) Cardin was born on Dec. 16, 1925, in Germantown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Marie (Mackaben) Schroeder. She lived her youth on a farm outside of Germantown and attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from high school in Paullina, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Marvin A. Puhrman of Paullina, Iowa, on March 24, 1946, at Germantown, Iowa. They lived in Linn Grove, Iowa, until 1958, when they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. Elfriede worked as a hair stylist for 44 years. She started in Linn Grove and when they moved to Sheldon, Elfriede opened her own hair salon in Sheldon. Marvin passed away on Dec. 22, 1987. Elfriede continued living in Sheldon until 1988. She then retired and moved to Ankeny, Iowa.

Elfriede was united in marriage to Clement Cardin on Feb. 6, 1993. They lived in Ankeny, Iowa, and enjoyed playing cards, wintering in Arizona, and being together. Clement passed away on Feb. 15, 2005.

Elfriede moved to Shawnee, Kansas, to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Dave Guthrie. She later moved to Garden Terrace in Overland Park, where she passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law: Denny and Nancy Puhrman of Lake Park, IA; her daughter and son-in-law: Sheila and David Guthrie of Shawnee, KS; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Lorna Schroeder of Clive, IA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Marie Schroeder; her husbands: Marvin Puhrman and Clement Cardin; daughter: Sandra Kilgore; son: Gary Puhrman; grandson: David Puhrman (infant son of Dennis and Nancy); and two brothers: Richard Schroeder and Burnell Schroeder.
