Services held for Severn L. Towe

Severn "Sam" Lee Towe, age 81 years, of Paullina, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa, following a brief struggle with cancer. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, with the Rev. Donald Freeman officiating. Burial is in the Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, with military graveside services by the Russell West Post of the American Legion. Arrangements were under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina.

Severn Towe, the son of Helen and Severn E. Towe, was born December 24, 1920 in Paullina, Iowa. He at­tended rural schools and graduated from Paullina High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 1942 until September 1945. Severn then returned to Paullina to begin farming.

On June 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Margie Fodelle Huxtable in Storm Lake, Iowa. After their marriage they continued to farm until 1982, when they retired and moved into Paullina.

Severn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, where he served as a deacon for six years, and he was a member of the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and coin and stamp collecting.

Severn leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Lee of Urbandale, Iowa, Ann Glow of Omaha, Nebraska, and Bruce of Pasadena, California; his five grandchildren, Ryan and Adrianne Towe and Kathleen, Mi­helle and Alex Glow; one sister, Alice Marie Ihle of Paullina; two brothers, Larry Towe of Paullina and Don Towe of Carrollton, Texas; also a host of other relatives and friends whom he valued and appreciated very much.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Robert and sister Marian Turner.
