Services held for John M. Huffman Jr.

Funeral services for John M. Huffman Jr. were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2002, at the Church of Christ, Primghar, Iowa with John Byrd Officiating. Congregational hymns sung were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Organist was Sandy DuBay. Casket bearers were Albert Gosnell, Richard Gosnell, Greg Gosnell, Paul Long, Larry Long and Alfred Chambers. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Primghar, Iowa. Arrangements were under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

John M. Huffman Jr., the son of John M. and Alice Gosnell Huffman Sr., was born July 16, 1963 in Peru, Illinois. He attended school in Spring Valley, Illinois. In 1981 he entered the Army which he served until his discharge in February of 1985.

On August 13, 1984 he was united in marriage to Sheryl Hellman on Oglesby, Illinois. After his discharge from the service, the couple lived in Cedar Point, Illinois before coming to Paullina, Iowa in 1991. The couple moved to Primghar, Iowa in 1996.

John was employed as a truck driver for many years, most recently employed by Van Wyk Trucking in Sheldon, Iowa.

He passed away on Friday, December 28, 2001 as a result of a truck accident in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, reaching the age of 38 years, 5 months and 12 days. He was a dedicated husband and father and enjoyed remodeling his home and woodworking.

John leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sheryl of Primghar; children Tina, Tanya, Raymond and Jessica, all of Primghar; his mother and step father Alice and Larry Long of Paullina; his father John M. Huffman Sr. of LaSalle, Illinois; five brothers, William and his wife Juanita Huffman of Eureka, South Dakota, David and his wife Tammy Huffman of Knoxville, Tenn., Gary Huffman of Peru, Illinois, Joseph Huffman of Oglesby, Illinois, and Lawrence and Paul M. Long, both of Paullina; a sister, Mary and her husband Dan Cox of Bath, Illinois, half sister Hallie Huffman of Peru, Illinois; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ida Larson of Sioux City, Iowa; and his paternal grandparents, Leora Huffman of Dana, Illinois and Merle Huffman of Lincoln, Illinois; also 9 nieces, 12 nephews and 1 great-nephew; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by brother James and his maternal grandfather.
