Earl Elgersma, age 81, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa. Funeral services will be Monday, November 17, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Greg Timmer officiating. Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Sunday, November 16, from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Jacob Earl Elgersma, son of Ernest J. and Bessie (De Vries) Elgersma, was born on February 25, 1927, in Primghar, Iowa. He lived his youth in rural Primghar and Hartley, Iowa, where he attended a country school. He graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, where he attained the rank of Seaman First Class.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Donkersloot of Sanborn, Iowa, on June 1, 1951, in Sanborn. They lived in Hartley and Primghar, Iowa, where they farmed. In 1957, they moved to Artesia, California. Earl attended night
classes for three years in Industrial Electronics. In 1964, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa, where they continued to live. Earl was a self-taught refrigeration mechanic. He owned and operated Elgersma Refrigerator Service
and worked for over 35 years. Gladys passed away on January 29, 2004.

Earl enjoyed serving his customers and keeping busy. He liked flowers and gardening and giving his produce to others. He enjoyed being outdoors and appreciating God's gifts in nature. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, where he had served as an elder and attended and taught Bible Studies for many years. He passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Betty and Doug Post of Los Gatos, CA, Galen and Shirley Elgersma of Sheldon, IA, Larry and Lavonne Andringa of Sibley, IA, Jane Korver Yergler and Dennis Yergler of Cedar Rapids, IA; ten grandchildren: Melanie Post, Leah Brekken, Amber Oostdyk, Derek Post, Rachel Lamfers, Sara Hofman, Naomi Schout, Philip Elgersma, Seth Korver and Dane Korver; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister: Ida Kreykes of Sanborn, IA; one brother: Kenneth Elgersma of Sanborn, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; three brothers: Gerald Elgersma, Eugene Elgersma and Elmer Elgersma (in infancy).
