WILLIAM JACOB GONNERMAN

William Jacob Gonnerman, the son of John and Elizabeth Beck Gonnerman, was born May 3, 1885 at Dysart, Iowa. He passed into eternal life on June 19, 1965 at Hartley, Iowa, having reached the age of 80 years, 1 month, and 16 days. He attended the public schools at Dysart. He had lived in' Hartley for about 20 years following his retirement from farming in 1944. He had farmed in this area for about 37 years. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and of the Woodman Lodge.

On Feb. 12, 1908 he was united in marriage to Anna Nelson. To them were born 8 children, two sons of whom died in infancy. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and a son-in-law, Fred Wackerbarth in 1964.

Surviving are his wife, Anna, his children: Mrs. Leona Wackerbarth of Phoenix, Arizona, Vaun, Gerald, Donald, and Moris Gonnerman, all of Hartley, and Mrs. Wm. Nagel (Doris) of Hartley, 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, two sisters; Mrs. Frank Shatzer, and Mrs. Fred Rost, both of Hartley, other relatives, and many friends.

In his long life in this community he was always well-known as a good neighbor and a kind friend. He will be remembered by his family for his gentle ways and loving thoughlfulness, as husband, father, and brother.

Last rites were held June 21 at 2 p. m. in the Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. R. G. Beck officiating. "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In the Garden" were sung by Jake Moermond accompanied by Mrs. Audley DeGraaf. Pallbearers were Herman Lan-wehr, Clyde Rost, Maynard Belz, Henry Baumeister, Henry Wieditz and Leonard Zahn. Interment was made in Pleasant View Cemetery. Hartley.
