Funeral services for Vernelle P. Riedemann were held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa with the Reverend Karl Eckhoff officiating. "How Great Thou Art" "Amazing Grace" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" were sung by the congregation. The organist was Mrs. Verla Hibbing. The casket bearers were John Beeson, Jeremy Beeson, Keith Hanson, Chris Hanson, Larry Appledorn and Mark Hibbing.
Interment was at the Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa under the direction of the Guardian Eldridge funeral home.

Vernelle P. Riedemann, the son of Frederick and Hermine Levernz Riedemann was born April 5, 1913 in Paullina, Iowa. He was raised in Paullina and attended Paullina schools. He worked in the Paullina area and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps serving for two years in Arkansas.

He returned to Paullina and was united marriage to Irma Fiddelke on June 22, 1938 at the St. John's Lutheran Church parsonage in Germantown, Iowa. The couple made their home in Paullina.

He was employed for over 35 years with the Iowa Highway commission's until his retirement in 1978. His wife preceded him in death on February 15, 1970, in Rochester, Minnesota. He remained in the family home in Paullina after his retirement and became a resident of the Paullina Care Center on January 18, 2001.

He passed away at the Paullina Care Center on Sunday, March 25, 2001, reaching the age of 87 years, 11 months and 20 days.

He was baptized on May 4, 1913 and later confirmed on May 23, 1925 and was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He was an avid outdoors man enjoyed fishing and hunting his entire life.

Vernelle is survived by a daughter and her husband, Dianne and Bob Cunningham of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a son and his wife, Tom and Karen Riedemann of Cherokee; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Cunningham and his wife Lucy, Jacob, Jonathan, Aaron, Anna, Rebekah and Michael Cunningham, all of Minneapolis and a great-granddaughter Madeleine Cunningham; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents and one brother Clemens.
