"Lord's blessings to you all" — Hermine Voss

Hermine Voss, a woman with the distinction of being the oldest Paullina resident, died Monday, October 4. She was born 104 years ago on May 4, 1889 in O'Brien County, Iowa. Her parents were Carl and Johanna Levernz. Voss was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown and confirmed in 1905 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She went to school in the Paullina area and continued her education with nurses training in Sioux City.

Hermine married Frederick Riedemann and the couple was blessed with two sons, Clemens and Vernelle.

In 1939 she was married to Ernest Voss and the couple made their home in Paullina.

Voss volunteered 1000 hours of work as a "lady in blue" at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid of the Church. She was a "Gold Star Mother" of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 6 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. Rev. Stephen Kamprath and Rev. Charles Kramer officiated. Pallbearers were Roy Ebel, Orlynn Strampe, LeRoy Pingel, Melvin Richter, Wally Tesch, and Wilbert Ebel.

Hermine was preceded in death by her husbands - Frederick Riedemann and Ernest Voss, a son -Clemens - killed in action on January 5, 1945 in France during World War II, two daughter-in-laws - Ann Riedemann and Irma Riedemann, parents and three great great-grand­children.

Left to cherish her memory are: one son - Vernelle Riedemann of Paullina; grandchildren - Rita and her husband, LaVerne Hornberg, Carol and her husband, Willis Gensmer, Stephan and his wife, Peggy Riedemann, and Jean Riedemann - all of Winona, Minnesota, Dureen Heins of Los Angeles, California, Beverly and her husband, Argene Tschumper of Bloomington, Minnesota, Dianne and her husband, Bob Cunningham of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Tom and his wife, Karen Riedemann of Cherokee; 25 great-grandchildren; 15 great great­grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of friends. Hermine was known for sharing her love for life and faith in God with family and friends. She left her loved ones with a special message -"God's Blessings to you all."
