WESLEY R. ELGERSMA 1931 — 2001

Wesley R, Elgersma, the son of Ray and Nellie (Brower) Elgersma, was born at Sanborn, Iowa on February 15,1931. He attended Christian schools In Sanborn and Sheldon and graduated from Western Christian High School at Hull, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Thelma Schultz on December 14, 1950 at Edgerton, Minn. They lived in Sheldon from 1950 to 1986, when they moved to Sanborn. While residing in Sheldon, Wes owned and operated Keen Korner Oil Co. for many years and then in 1972 he became a salesman for Life Investors, Inc. Since moving to Sanborn he served as an assistant to the funeral director at the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Wes died on February 6, 2001 at North­west Iowa Health Center at Sheldon, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Sanborn; four sons: Doug of Sheldon, la., Tim of Neenah, Wise, Barry and his wife, Brenda of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Fred of Waterford, Conn.; two daughters: Starla and her husband, Lee Reitsma of Sanborn, and Gloria and her husband, George Miller of Mlddleburg, Ia.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grand­children; and one sister, Kay Granstra and her husband, Jim, of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jan Ringler.

Wes was an active member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. He had served on the finance board and school board of the Sheldon Christian School and was head counselor of the Calvinist Cadet Club for several years in the 1960's and 1970's. He was a charter member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon where he served as an elder and deacon. In Mesa, Ariz, he served a three-year term on the steering committee of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church.

Wes enjoyed golfing, reading, playing billiards, trimming small trees and bushes, along with visiting family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered by his family and others who knew him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Funeral services were held February 10 at the Christian Reformed Church In Sanborn with Rev. Dale Fopma officiating. Casket bearers were Corey Elgersma, Ben Reitsma, Heath Reitsma, Justin Elgersma, Mark Elgersma and Nick Miller. Honorary bearers were Robbie Jungers, Sara Dolieslager, Leah Miller, Tony Reitsma, Paul Elgersma, Ned Reitsma and Dawn Miller. The Victory Voices: Judy Visser, Cella Bosma, Pat Sybesma, Linda Oldenkamp and Jerl Prtns sang "Victory for Jesus" and "His Grace Is Sufficient for Me." Congregational hymns were "Allls Well," and "Through the Love of God Our Savior." Jamie Prins was pianist and Alvlna Krikke was organist

Burial was in Rose land Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge. The family requests memorials be made to the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church.
