IRVIN HORSTMAN
1932 — 1999

Irvin Vernon Horstman, the son of Gerrit and Angeline (Holland) Horstman, was born at Newkirk, Iowa on June 29,1932. He lived his youth in Sioux Center where he attended the Sioux Center Christian School. During his lifetime, Irv was engaged in the carpentry business throughout the Sanborn area. He took special interest in working in the homes of his children.

He died at Baum-Harmon Memorial Hospital at Primghar, Iowa on January 25, 1999.

He is survived by his children: Dennis and Mary Beth of Chicago, 111., Sue and Bob Hewitt, of Apache Junction, Ariz., Laurie and Dan Van Veldhuizen of Primghar, la., Jess and Tschama of Fayettevllle, N.C., and Peggy Sterler of LaVernia.Tex.; 16 grandchildren: Kevin, Anne, Craig, Angela, Matthew, Kurt, Kayla, Leigha, Amy, Ryan, Mlndy, Cindy, Spencer, Derek, Anthony, and Ashley; his mother, Angeline Horstman of Sanborn; his brothers and their wives: Marlon and Agnes of Sanborn, Gerald and Evie of Grand Rapids, Mich., Gerben and June of Sanborn, Keith and Ann of Grand Rapids, Mich., Del and Maria of Omaha, Neb., Virgil and Joan of Hull, Ia., Nelson and Gloria of Council Bluffs, la., Gary and Florence of Hull. Ia., and Robert and Glenda of Inwood, Ia.; and his sister and her husband: Gertrude and Ed Visser of Sanborn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerrit, one son, Randi, and one grandson, Travis.

Irv attended the First Reformed Church of Sanborn. He loved his carpentry work and enjoyed plants and gardening. He was semi-retired for the past five years and cherished spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 27 at the First Reformed Church of Sanborn with Rev. Thomas Hoogendoom officiating. Casket bearers were Kurt Van Veldhulzen, Matt Hewitt, Kevin Horstman, CraigHorstman, Mike Vlsser and Joel Gibbons. Irv's grandchildren served as honorary casket bearers. Hubert Schuller sang "Saved by Grace." Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "Blessed Be the Tie That Binds." The organlnst was Ariene Dykstra. Judy Dykstra served as pianist

Burial was at Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn.
