JOHN FREDERICK SWANSON

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon for John Frederick Swanson, 90, son of Swan and Christian Swanson. He was born in Skara Sweden on July 24, 1853, and was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church.

In the year 1880 he emigrated to Paxton, Ill., where he was united in marriage with Augusta Swanson on December 25. Mr. and Mrs. Swanson immediately moved to Spencer where he received employment as section foreman with the Milwaukee railroad. Later, he moved to Sanborn and in the year 1887 he moved to Hartley. In the year 1900, he moved his family to his farm twelve miles northwest of Hartley. In the spring of 1920, he retired and moved back to Hartley where he remained until his death.

He passed away on July 20, 1943, at the age of 89 years, eleven months, and 26 days.

He leaves to mourn his death, his widow, five sons and three daughters; C. F. Swanson of Yuba City, Calif.; Mrs. C. B. Rogers and Mrs. Edith Rogers of Portland, Ore.; G. V. Swanson of Mitchell, S. D.; Mis. Max Rottunda of Montevideo, Minn., A. F. Swanson of Eldora, Kansas; E. L. Swanson of Hartley and E. D. Swanson of Lake Park. He also leaves 25 grand children and 14 great grandchildren.

His first wife, Augusta, and one son, John, preceded him in death.

Albeit Swanson, Mrs. C. B. and Edith Rogers and C. F. Swanson were unable to attend the funeral. Out-of-town relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Linus Johnson and Lenore of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Swanson of Mitchell, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Max Rottunda of Montevideo, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rottunda of Granite Falls, Minn., Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Rottunda of Sioux City, Mrs. Harold Nelson of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Denny Swanson, Dorothy and Betty Lou of Lake Park and Mrs. Jamison of Fort Dodge.
