Sarah Swanson

Sarah (Sadie) Swanson. 96, of Sioux City died Saturday. May 2. 1992, at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness. She had resided the last two years at Countryside Retirement Home. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 1992. at Grace United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Nelson officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swanson. the former Sarah (Sadie) Kenyon. was born July 2, 1895. in Archer. Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Lamkin) Kenyon. She attended school in Archer and graduated from Sheldon High School. She attended Morningside College and taught country school for eight years in the Archer and Hartley vicinity.

She married Edward L. Swanson November 1, 1922, in Archer. The couple resided In Rowena. South Dakota, Corwith and Germantown, Iowa, and then lived 37 years in Hartley, where they operated the Swanson Oil Co. After their retirement, they moved to Sioux City In 1968.

Mrs. Swanson was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, and the Methodist Church in Hartley. She was a member of the Methodist Women's Society and circles In both churches. At Hartley, she taught Sunday school. Bible school and worked with children's activities for 30 years. She was also a member of the Women's Relief Corps and a literary club In Hartley.

Survivors Include her husband; a daughter and her husband. Joyce and Harlan "Bud" Dawson of Sioux City; a son. Gary, and his wife. Shirley, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin: four grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; and three step-grandchildren.

She was preceded In death by two brothers. Bert and Orin Kenyon; and five sisters. Nellie Kenyon. Ann Baerenwald. Beth Kimmel. Mary Moll and Lil Sinyard.

Memorials have been established in her name with Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City and the Hartley United Methodist Church.
