MRS. AUGUSTA SWANSON

Augusta Swanson, the eldest of the four children of Andrew and Charlotte Swanson was born June 7th, 1863 at Skara, Sweden, and passed away at her home in Hartley, Iowa, December 4th, 1921, at the age of fifty-eight years, five months and twenty-seven days. She grew to womanhood and received her education in Sweden and came to America in 1880, settling at Paxton, Ill., where on December 25th, 1880 she was united in marriage with John Swanson.

In 1882 they moved to Spencer, Iowa, and in 1886 to Hartley. This union was blesed by nine children, eight of whom survive her. She was a member of the Swedish Lutheran church in Sweden and was also a member of the Woman's Relief Corps in Hartley.

She leaves to mourn her loss her aged mother who lived with her, her husband, five sons, Albert and Charles Swanson of Sioux City, Gus Swanson of Mitchell, S.D., Edward and Elmer Swanson of Hartley; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Rogers of Edmonton, Canada, Mrs. Clifford Rogers of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Max Rottunda of Hartley, Iowa and fifteen grandchildren.

During her residence in Hartley and vicinity she gathered a friendship from her neighbors and acquaintances which was won purely by her generous courtesies and kindnesses and her large circle or friends join in extending to those now under a shadow of grief their sympathy. The home has suffered the loss of one of the world's greatest jewels—a kind and sacrificing mother.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. church yesterday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Barkley.
