Funeral Services for Von Brower

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. for Von E. Brower, 62, of Spencer at the Baumgarten Funeral Home in Spencer. He died Wednesday at St. Luke's Nursing Home in Spencer. The Rev. Jud Larson officiated and burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Serving as pallbearers were G.W. "Pete" Howe, Gary Walker, Gary Gilmore, Ray Feldhacker, Dick Gilmore and Charles Woods. Honorary bearers were Ellsworth Hanson and Carl Thorson.

Brower, the son of Ed and Vema Rost Brower, was born Dec. 22, 1919 at Hartley, where he graduated from high school in 1937.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and served as Staff Sergeant in the 389th Field Artillery Battalion. He served overseas in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters of World War II, and received his honorable discharge in 1945 at Camp Beale, Calif.

He married Darlene Fanning in 1948 in Ocheyedan, and worked as a salesman for various businesses in Spencer. He entered St. Luke's Nursing Home in 1976.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Maxine Henline. Survivors include one son, Terry of Indio, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Jeri Gilmore of Sioux Rapids; four grandchildren; and one brother, Marvin (Dutch) Brower of Spencer.
