WILLIAM JOHN BYERS
William John Byers passed away at the Hand Hospital Monday morning, July 31, 1950, following a severe heart attack Saturday evening which occurred at his home seven miles north of Hartley where he had resided for 58 years.
William John, better known as Jack, was born near Pontiac, Ill., on August 18, 1880. If he had lived until his birthday, he would have been 70 years old.
At the age of eleven, he came to Hartley with his parents, John and Susan Byers. He was married to Maud Collett on January 8, 1913. To this union two sons, Claire and Everett, were born.
He was baptized in the Presbyterian faith when he was a child. He had enjoyed good health until about four years ago.
In his passing he leaves his beloved widow, his two sons, one daughter-in-law, one grandson and one granddaughter. He also leaves three brothers and four sisters: Robert, James, Belle Sauer, and Susie Ahrenstorff of Hartley, Dave of Spencer, Ella Page, and Martha Hopfe of Austin, Minn.; and a host of relatives and friends.
His parents and one sister, Mary Page, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at Foley's Funeral Home and 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church in the charge of the pastor, the Reverend Raymond A. Roloff. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley. Pallbearers were August Kruckenberg, Merle Groff, Armin Adolf, Emmett Noonan, Otto Klatt and Knute Sorensen.
