Obituary—Civil War Veteran

James M. Lewis was born In Logan county, Ohio, 1837. In 1855 he came to Iowa with his mother, two sisters, one brother and his stepfather. The trip to Iowa was made in a covered wagon. The family lived in Jones county, and remained there until the war broke out in 1861. Mr. Lewis enlisted in the Iowa Infantry Company B, and served for 5 years and one month.

In 1918 he entered the Soldiers Home and remained there until his death Feb. 19, 1930, at the age of nearly 93 years.

The funeral service was held at Primghar, with Rev Alcock, officiating. The service was in charge of the American Legion.

Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Fige, sang two beautiful hymns. A good many from the Archer vicinity, and from Primghar attended the funeral. Quite' a large number of people from a distance also attended the funeral, numbering old friends and acquaintances.
