1884 - B. W. Hellman 1944[sic]

Bernhard W. Hellmann. was born September 21, 1884, in Caledonia Twp., O'Brien County, the son of Louis and Anna Hellmann. He was raised in the Paullina community, and spent his entire life farming there.

On July 6, 1916, he was united in marriage with Ella Jacobs and they began farming on the home place in Caledonia Twp. In 1917 he moved his family to the farm near Paullina, which has been his home to the present time.

He was received into the membership of the Presbyterian church of Paullina in 1920, and continued to be a faithful member of the congregation. For several years he was a faithful trustee of the church. At the time of his death he was also a member of the Paullina Lions Club.

His death came suddenly from a heart attack on Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, suffered while he was at work cribbing corn.

He always took pride in his farm and his crops, and he was known in the community as an excellent farmer and feeder.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Anna Hellmann of Paullina; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Drefke and Mrs. Ray Fife, both of Paullina; by his children, Mrs. Margaret Fee of Denison, Capt. Clifford Hellman, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, Gladys of Missouri Valley, and Dorothy of Paullina and by two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 o'clock First Presbyterian church, with Rev. Frielie E. Conaway, officiating. Burial was made in the Prairie View cemetery.
