1885 • Henry Koehlmoos - 1944

A lifelong resident of this community, a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran church, was laid to rest on Sunday in the person of Mr. Henry Koehlmoos, who departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, November 15th.

The services were held at the family home and then in St John church, with the Rev. W. H. Jurgens in charge. The large audience listened with rapt attention to the exposition and application of the 121st Psalm, the text of the sermon, and participated in the singing of the mighty chorales selected for the occasion.

Henry Frederick Julius Koehlmoos was born on November 12, 1885, the son of Ehler Koehlmoos and his wife, Mary, nee Broocks, on a farm in Caledonia Twp. On November 22 of the same year he was received into Christ's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. He attended the Paris School of St. John church, and after thoro instruction in the fundamental teachings of the Bible he was confirmed on March 26, 1899. To the vow of allegiance to the Triune God the deceased, by the grace of God, remained true. Since January 2, 1918, he had been a member of the Voters Assembly of St. John Church.

On December 20, 1916, the deceased became espoused to Miss Ida Richter. This union the Lord blessed with five children.

The deceased was not required to endure a long siege of serious illness. On last Monday, November 13th, however, his condition required hospitalization. The Lord called His servant from this vale of tears at the age of 59 years and 3 days.

He is survived by his widow; two daughters, LuElla, Mrs. Otto Daum, of Pilger, Nebr., and Eleanora, Mrs. Henry Jalas, of Sutherland; three sons, Burnell, Elwood, and Lyle, living at home; three sisters, Minnie, Mrs. Henry Kuhlmann, of Tyler, Minn., Mrs. Kuester, and Hilda, resident here; four brothers, William, Fred, and Emil, residing in Caledonia Twp., and Edwin, of Gaza; two grandchildren; and a host of other near and distant relatives.

His mortal remains were laid to rest in the cemetery of St John church, being borne by the Messrs. Albert Meyer, Richard Hohbach, Walter Pauline, Walter Ehel, John Stamer, and Harry Hansen. -The service of flower-girls was rendered by the Misses Lorraine Hohbach, Margaret and Mildred Teach.
