Darlene L. Blumeyer

Darlene L. Blumeyer, 60, of Boyden, passed away December 14, 1998 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services were held Friday, December 18, 1998 at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. The Rev. John Goertz officiated.

Burial was in the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Boyden.

Darlene L. Blumeyer, the daughter of Walter and Norma Appeldorn Beermann, was born January 13, 1938, in O'Brien County, Iowa. She attended country school and later the Paullina High School.

On November 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Verdean Blumeyer in Calumet, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled in Sheldon where she raised her family and later was employed by Kats Hardware in Sheldon. The couple moved to Boyden in 1990 and Darlene was employed by Maurers Market, until her retirement.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden and the U.P.W. of the church. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Boyden.

Darlene is survived by her husband Verdean of Boyden; her children, Pamela and her husband Adrian VanDer Linden of Hull, Cindy and her husband Matt Brown of Fort Dodge, Douglas and his wife Robin Blumeyer of Sheldon, and Lisa and her husband Ron Daggett of Boyden; seventeen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her mother Norma Andersen of Paullina; her brothers and sisters, Mrs. Caroline Rensink of Boyden, Ronald Beermann of Paullina, Bertha Laursen of Rock Rapids, Merlin Beermann of Sheldon, Merle Beermann of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Henry Andersen of Hartley, Brad Andersen of Adel, and Betty Engelke of Sutherland; also many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, step-father Hans Andersen and one sister Luella.

NOTE: It appears that daughter Darlene was not yet born when her father died after having been swept away in a flood. He died in May of 1937. She was born in January, 1938. This would explain why she is not mentioned in his obituary. -ja
