Funeral services for Virgil V. Jenness of Sanborn were held on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 2:00 p.m. from the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with Rev. Richard R. Dunn officiating.

Burial was in the Afton Township Cemetery at rural Cherokee.

Military rites at the graveside were held by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W.

Virgil V. Jenness, 76, of Sanborn, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, at 10:12 p.m. in the St. Luke's Reigonal Medical Center in Sioux City following a short illness.

He was born on Dec. 28, 1921 at Archer to Francis and Verna (McCorkel) Jenness. He graduated from Washta High School in 1941 and then attended Trade School in Omaha, Ne. for six months. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 until 1945.

He was married to Evangalene Johnson on April 24, 1947 at Sioux City. He had farmed for many years and had also worked for Wilson Foods Corp. in Cherokee for 17-1/2 years, retiring in 1983. He had been a resident of Sanborn the past 33 years and was originally from Cherokee County, Iowa. He was a member of the United Church of Primghar. He belonged to the American Legion Post #36 at Primghar and the V.F.W. Post #9129 at Primghar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oliver and Erwin Jenness; one sister, Reta Fuhrman; a brother and sister in infancy; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Roby and August Fuhrman.

He is survived by his wife, Evangalene; two daughters and one son, Maureen Lee and her husband Dave of Sioux City, Darla Jenness of Sioux City and Marvin Jenness of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Melinda and Joshua Lee; one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Mae Anderson; three brothers and three sisters, Merntt and Velma Jenness of Marcus, Howard and Berna Jenness of Cherokee, Marlin and Carla Jenness of LeMars, Ruby and Lester Webb of Cherokee, Geraldine Roby of Aurelia and Lois Pflugrad of Port Angeles, Wa., two sisters-in-law, Armeda Jenness of Kingsley and Marcella Jenness of Primghar; and many nieces and nephews.
