Fernando Bernal

Fernando Bernal, 81, of Primghar, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 1998 at the Baum-Harmon Memorial Hospital in Primghar. Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, December 19, 1998 at the Church of Christ in Primghar. Pastor Rick Bender will officiate with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gaudian Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar. A complete obituary will appear in next week's newspaper.

Services held for Fernando L. Bernal

Funeral services for Fernando L Bernal were held at Noon on Saturday, December 19, 1998, at the Church of Christ in Primghar, Iowa, with Pastor Rick Bender officiating "Rest High on the Mountain" was sung by James Franklin and "Power in the Blood" was sung by Dave Hicks. The organist was Sandy DuBay. The casket bearers were Frankie Powers, Gene Brown, Harry Amck, Wally Everetts, James Franklin and John DuBay. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Pnmghar, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Fernando Lara Bernal, the son of Trinidad and Benita Lopez Bernal, was born June 30, 1917, in Oro Grande, California. He received his education in schools in California. He was united in marriage to Dominga Navarro in California.

Fernando was called into the Army during the Korean Conflict being discharged on May 29, 1952, as a Sergeant First Class.

He returned to California and for 32 years he was employed by the Safeway Stores in California. For many years he was a Lay Preacher in the California area.

He moved to be near his son in Primghar, Iowa, in January of 1998. He passed away on Saturday, December 12, 1998, at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, reaching the age of 81 years, 5 months and 12 days.

He attended the Church of Christ in Primghar and was a very caring and compassionate man.

Fernando leaves to cherish his memory four sons: Jim and his wife, Eleanor Bernal of Primghar, Ron Bernal in Arizona, Mike Bernal of Victorville, California, and Ronnie Bernal of Victorville, California; nine grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; one brother, Leo Lopez of Victorville, California; three sisters: Mary Torrez of San Bernadino, California, Teresa Griener in Colorado and Francis Schluter of Kingman, Arizona; also many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

His wife Dominga preceded him in death.
