IDA BREHMER GOSCH

Ida Brehmer Gosch, second
daughter of John Brehmer and
his wife, Mary, nee Peters, was
born on July 11, 1877, at Plainview,
"Scott County, Iowa, where
she attended the rural school and
spent her girlhood.

On February 13, 1896, she was
united in marriage to Adolph
Gosch also of Scott County. To
this union, four children were
born — one son and three daughters.
Immediately following their
marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Gosch
moved to O'Brien County where
they were engaged in farming.
Six years ago, they moved to the
town of Hartley where the deceased
had since made her home.

In the past three years, Mrs.
Gosch had been in failing health.
On August 26, 1953, she was
called to her heavenly reward at
the age of 76 years, 1 month, and
15 days. She was baptized in the
Methodist faith at Hartley, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were
her father and mother, one
grandson, Gordon Luedke, two
brothers, Otto Brehmer and Herman
Brehmer, and one sister, Sophia
Lage.

She is survived by her husband,
Adolph Gosch, her four
children: Gustave at home, Stella
(Mrs. Emil Peters), Hartley;
Mable (Mrs. Julius Luedke),
Primghar; and Ida (Mrs. Harold
Ewoldt) of Inglewood, California.
There are also three brothers:
Julius, John and Emil Brehmer;
two sisters: Mrs. Meta Bertram,
and Mrs. Adelia Christopher, all
of Hartley; nine grandchildren,
eight great-grandchildren, and
many other relatives and friends.
All of these deeply mourn the
loss of a kind, loving, and
thoughtful mother, and a faithful
friend and neighbor.

Funeral services were conducted
on Saturday afternoon at two
o'clock at. the family residence
by the Reverend Raymond A.
Roloff of the Methodist Church.
Florence Fahlenkamp sang, "Going
Down the Valley," "Beautiful
Isle of Somewhere" and
Nearer My God to Thee," accompanied
by Mrs. Rolla Allred,
who also played other appropriate
music. Interment was made
in the Pleasant View cemetery
at Hartley.
Pallbearers were six of Mrs.
Gosch's grandsons: Gale, Roger
and Lyle Luedke, Darrell Peters,
Jimmy Ewoldt and Warren Jenkins.
Floral arrangements were
cared for by Mrs. Will Gonnerman,
Mrs. Kathryn. Gonnerman |
and Mrs. Clarence Gonnerman.

Those from out of town who
attended the services were Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Ewoldt and Jimmy
Ewoldt of Inglewood, California;
Mrs. Jack Gutting, Lynwood,
California; Mr. Hugo Dietz
and Mr. Gustave Gosch of Davenport,
Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Untiedt of Durant, Iowa; Mrs.
Elsie Brehmer and Mr. and Mrs.
Lyle Callaway of Whitten, Iowa.

The following poem is characteristic
of her:
She always leaned to watch for
us
Anxious if we were late
In winter by the window
In summer by the gate.
And though we mocked her tenderly
Who had such foolish care
The long way home would seem
more safe
Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were all so full of
us
She never would forget!
And so we think that where she
is
She must be watching yet.
Waiting till we come home to her
Anxious if we are late
Watching from Heaven's window
Leaning from Heaven's gate.
