Services held for Darrel H. Grothaus

Funeral services for Darrel H Grothaus were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 1997, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa, with Rev Steven Hayden officiating. "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" were sung by the congregation The organist was Keith Koehlmoos. The casket bearers were David Grothaus, Jason Grothaus, Scott Cullison, Jeff Grothaus, Ryan Grothaus and Gordon Post. Military Graveside Services were conducted by the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina. Interment was at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldredge Funeral Home

OBITUARY

Darrel H Grothaus. the son of Henry and Alma Seggerman Grothaus, was born January 27, 1925, in Remsen, Iowa. He attended school in Remsen and Remsen Union High School. He joined the Army on April 9, 1945. serving in Japan for one year before being discharged on January 2. 1947

On August 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Koehlmoos at the First Lutheran Church in Temple, Texas. After his discharge, the couple returned to the Paullina area where they farmed for 20 years before moving to a farm south of Primghar where they farmed for 25 years. They retired and moved into Pnmghar on June 4, 1992.

He passed away on Tuesday, Apnl 29, 1997, at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Pnmghar, reaching the age of 72 years, 3 months and 2 days.

He was baptized on April 4, 1926, and later confirmed at the Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen and was currently a member of the St John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. He enjoyed fishing, helping out on the farm and baby sitting with his greatgrandchildren. His family meant a lot to him including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Darrel leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lorraine of Primghar; two sons and their wives: Ronald and Sharon and Roger and Gerda, all of Primghar; five grandchildren: David Grothaus of Pocahontas, IA, Jeff and his wife, Aimee Grothaus of Primghar, Jason Grothaus of Cedar Falls, IA, Ryan Grothaus of Wayne, NE, and Kallie Grothaus of Primghar; two great-grandchildren: Kalie and Kevin Grothaus; his mother, Mrs. Alma Schemer of Primghar; one brother, Wayne and his wife, Joanne Grothaus of Mesa, AZ; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Grothaus and stepfather, Roy Schemer.
